Events: 2017 National Narrow Gauge Convention
Denver Meet Photos

The 2017 National Narrow Gauge Convention found the Mudhens in Denver with the club loop modules, as well as 13 individual modules, some with multiple tables.

Here we see the layout has 2 rows of modules - the background row is the club sectional layout, while the foreground modules are member modules.

A setup like we have here can have some substantial runs, which makes for more operational possibilities, and more FUN!  Sometimes we make custom modules to make special connections possible.  To the left side of this picture is Steve Hollenbach's Rico module in snowy winter, while the cliffs above the Palisades on Chuck and Scot Proudfoot's DSP&P  module are prominent on the right side.

The club loop makes a great start to our major shows, but its obviously not all the Mudhens can bring to the show.  Often, we are limited by how much space is allotted to us by the venue.

The  drawing below shows the 2017 Denver layout..  In the center is the Club Loop from St Louis; to the left, forming a T, are modules from our Arizona Division; and to the  far right, with two reverse loops, are modules from the Illinois Division (Chicago area).  Drawing by John Scherr.

Denver Leadville & Gunnison 242, a former South Park Mason bogie , pulls a short freight over the beautiful rock wall at the Palisades on the west side of Alpine Tunnel.

Galloping Goose  No. 7 passing the Rico coal chutes on the way to the Club Loop.

RGS # 40 departs from the depot at Rico, one of the Arizona Division modules.

Steve  smiles while looking over his re-creation of Rico during the winter.

John and Lori watch as the short freight departs the snow scene at Rico, one of the Arizona Division modules.

The passengers are probably relieved to have passed the drop-off at the Palisades on the Denver South Park and Pacific. Palisades is a module from the Arizona Division.

RGS # 40 passes through town on the Tuscarora Valley, one of the Illinois Division modules from the Chicago area.

On the Club Loop, the stock pens at Old Placerville are being switched by RGS 40.

John contemplates the next move for his  train which is departing the distant water tank at Ouray.

RGS # 40  pulls a lone business car out of Ouray.

Mike navigates a smartphone throttle, with Gary looking on, during an operating session at snowy Rico.

John, Lori and Steve (in the yellow Mudhens shirts) survey the activity at the Rico yard while others look on.

It's a busy time at Lake Junction: the freight has pulled onto the Lake City Branch, allowing an eastbound passenger to highball ahead.  Below is the Gunnison River at the confluence with the Lake Fork  tributary, which flows under the timber Howe truss bridge.

Here an eastbound passenger departs from Gato on the Club Loop.

The Mudhens took Third Place  in the popular vote for best modular layout.
